Foreign travelers as a source of ancient Indian-History

Greek historian Herodotus in his book Historica has given an account of invasion on Indian by Darius in the 6th century BC.

 

Historian Arrians account relates to invasion of Alexander on India in the 4th century BC.



Magasthenese the greek ambassador in the court of Chandragupta Maurya wrote  his famous book Indica, which gives information about the Mauryan rule in the 4th century BC.

Chinese historian Ma-Chien wrote about India in the 1st century BC.

 

Chinese historian Fahiean visited India in the 5th century BC during the times of Chandragupta-II

Chinese scholar Hiuen Tsang (7th century AD) , who studied at the Nalanda University has given a detailed account of Harsha's time. He wrote in his famous book titled Tehrike-Hind or Kitab-ul-Hind
